Tinubu celebrates Makarfi at 70, Fidelity Bank pioneer Arah at 75
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former Kaduna State Governor and ex-National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, on his 70th birthday, and the first Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Nebolisa Arah, on his 75th birthday, describing both men as exemplary Nigerians whose contributions have left lasting impacts on public service and the banking sector.
In separate statements issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Makarfi as “a quintessential public servant and statesman” whose life has been defined by integrity, exemplary leadership and service to the nation.
Tinubu described the former Kaduna governor as “a perfect gentleman and an accountant of high repute,” noting that his contributions to governance and national development had earned him admiration across political divides.
The President recalled Makarfi’s service as Kaduna State Commissioner for Finance, governor, senator and former PDP national chairman, saying he consistently demonstrated commitment to democratic ideals, prudent management of public resources and policies that improved the lives of Nigerians.
He also commended the elder statesman for his civility in politics, calm disposition and commitment to dialogue and national cohesion.
“As you mark this significant milestone, I join your well-wishers in thanking Almighty Allah for your life of service and accomplishment. Your contributions to Kaduna State and our nation remain an enduring testament to purposeful leadership,” Tinubu said.
The President also celebrated Arah, describing the veteran banker as a pioneer whose leadership helped lay the foundation for Fidelity Bank and influenced the growth of Nigeria’s banking industry.
Arah became the founding Managing Director of Fidelity Union Merchant Bank, which later transformed into Fidelity Bank, in 1988 at the age of 37 and led the institution for 15 years.
