President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Mr. Mark Joseph Carney on his election as the 24th Prime Minister of Canada, following the Liberal Party’s victory in the recent parliamentary elections.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Carney’s emergence as timely, highlighting the need for experienced leadership in Canada’s current political climate.

Carney, a renowned economist and former central banker, previously served as Governor of the Bank of Canada (2008–2013) and Governor of the Bank of England (2013–2020).

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Carney’s extensive background in economics and governance would benefit Canada in this pivotal period.

He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Canada, particularly in the areas of education, climate change, and migration.

The President said he looks forward to building a strong, forward-looking partnership with Carney’s administration, while maintaining the goodwill and cooperation established during former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s tenure.
