Tinubu flags off Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan, Osogbo-Gbongan road projects

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday flagged off the construction of the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road and the reconstruction of the Osogbo-Akoda-Gbongan Road in Osun State, saying the projects will improve road infrastructure, ease transportation and boost economic activities.

Represented by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, Tinubu said the 82-kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road was awarded to Peculiar Concerns Limited for N114.85 billion with a completion period of 24 months.

He said the road would be constructed using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP), adding that the project was designed to stand the test of time.

The president also announced the reconstruction of the 44km dual carriageway (88km total length) from Osogbo to Akoda and Gbongan, awarded to Trucrete Solutions Limited at a cost of N101.81 billion with a 24-month completion period.

According to him, the project will rehabilitate failed sections of the road and reconstruct deteriorated portions using rigid concrete pavement.

Tinubu said the Federal Executive Council approved both projects to ease the burden on motorists, improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities in communities along the corridor.

He directed the contractors to mobilise fully to the project sites, warning that delays in execution would not be tolerated.

Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, described the projects as part of the Federal Government’s legacy infrastructure programme. “We are building roads that will last more than 100 years. These roads will help tackle insecurity, boost agricultural activities and create both direct and indirect jobs,” he said.
