Tinubu hails Argungu festival, pledges boost for agriculture and tourism

President Bola Tinubu on Saturday declared that the successful hosting of the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival signals a return to stability and normalcy in Kebbi State and across Nigeria, pledging stronger federal backing for agriculture, tourism and rural development.

Speaking at the grand finale of the four-day event in Argungu, Kebbi State, Tinubu described the festival as a powerful symbol of unity, resilience and peaceful coexistence. The event attracted more than 50,000 fishermen from across Nigeria and neighbouring countries, featuring cultural displays, water competitions, traditional boxing and dancing.

The President commended the Kebbi State Government for organising what he called a historic cultural celebration and praised the security arrangements that ensured a safe and successful outing.

He said the improved security situation in Kebbi and other parts of the country was the result of sustained investments in security operations, intelligence gathering and community engagement, as well as coordinated efforts between federal and state authorities.

Tinubu assured residents that the fight against insecurity, including banditry and insurgency, would be sustained until farmers, fishermen, traders and families could go about their daily activities without fear.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting farmers and rural communities, noting Kebbi’s strategic role in national food security. According to him, collaboration between the federal and state governments would further strengthen agricultural productivity and economic growth.

Before attending the festival, Tinubu commissioned several infrastructure projects in Birnin Kebbi, including the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Secretariat Complex, a new modern motor park, a three-lane dual carriageway, the Kauran Gwandu College of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences in Ambursa, and the dualised Old Argungu By-Pass Road.

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, thanked the President for attending the festival and reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustaining it as a tool for cultural preservation, tourism promotion and economic empowerment.
