Tinubu-Ojo leads clerics in prayers for Nigeria, Lagos at Hijrah gathering
The daughter of President Bola Tinubu and Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Mrs. Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, on Tuesday led Muslim clerics from across the South-West in prayers for Nigeria, Lagos State, and President Tinubu as part of activities marking the 2026 Hijrah celebration and in memory of the president’s late mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji.
The prayer session, held at the LTV Blue Roof Arena in Lagos, attracted dignitaries, Islamic scholars, market leaders, and traders from different parts of the country, including the speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, and the wife of the Lagos State deputy governor, Alhaja Lateefat Oluremi Hamzat.
During the programme, the clerics offered prayers for peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria, Lagos State, and the First Family. They also urged Nigerians, irrespective of their religious affiliations, to make prayer for the nation a collective responsibility.
Speaking at the event, a professor of Islamic studies at the University of Abuja and chief imam of Ansar-Ud-Deen, Abuja chapter, Prof. Musa Olaofe, described President Tinubu as a visionary leader committed to Nigeria’s development despite prevailing challenges.
“Nigeria is a great country, and we are currently under a leader who is committed to making a positive impact despite our numerous challenges. Let all of us go back home and continue with prayer as well as fulfilling our civic responsibilities so that we can all achieve the Nigeria of our dream,” he said.
Other clerics also commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, for their leadership, praying for continued peace and a smooth political transition in the state.
Addressing participants, Tinubu-Ojo stated that the annual gathering was organised to honour the legacy of her grandmother, Alhaja Mogaji, whom she described as a visionary leader who dedicated her life to service and humanity.
“My grandmother and predecessor, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, lived a life worthy of emulation. She was progressive-minded and wanted the best for all. Every year, we come together to celebrate all that the late Iyaloja lived for because her life was full of legacy and service to humanity,” she said.
