VP Shettima mourns Emir of Ngazargamu, describes him as symbol of unity, progress

Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid tribute to the late Emir of Ngazargamu, HRH Tijjani Ahmed Ibn-Saleh, describing the traditional ruler as a symbol of unity, peace and progress whose life offers valuable lessons for Nigerians.

Shettima made the remarks on Friday in Damaturu, Yobe State, shortly after attending the funeral of the monarch, who died in Cairo, Egypt, following a prolonged illness.

Speaking to journalists after the burial, the Vice President said the late emir was a strong advocate of education and urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to embrace learning as a tool for personal and societal development.

“He led a good life; he was an advocate of education as a tool for social enhancement. He lived well and died honourably. May Allah grant his soul eternal rest,” Shettima said.

The Vice President also prayed for the repose of the emir’s soul and asked God to grant comfort to the bereaved family.

Earlier, Shettima joined worshippers at the Yobe Islamic Centre in Damaturu for the Juma’at prayer and funeral rites held in honour of the late monarch. He later conveyed the condolences of President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government to the family of the deceased during a visit to the Yobe State Presidential Lodge.

Delivering a sermon during the prayer session, the Imam of the Yobe Islamic Centre, Ustaz Hudu Mohammed, urged Nigerians to fear God and rely on Him for success in life. He also offered prayers for peace, stability and development in the country and encouraged citizens to continue praying for their leaders.

Several prominent figures attended the funeral, including Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan; former Vice President, Babagana Kingibe; Senator Danjuma Goje; Senator Kaka Shehu; the Shehu of Borno; and the Emir of Fika, among others.
