Yayi reveals plans to make Ogogo special adviser before death
By Damilola Akinwale –
The Ogun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has revealed that he planned to appoint late veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, as his special adviser on tourism and culture if elected governor in 2027.
Yayi disclosed this on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the late actor’s family in Ilaro, Ogun State.
The senator described Ogogo as an elder brother and praised his contributions to acting, culture and the preservation of Yoruba heritage.
He said he had planned to make Ogogo a member of his cabinet because of his experience and knowledge of Ogun State’s cultural heritage.
“And the reasons are not far-fetched. He is good at what he does as an actor, a traditional person, as a cultural person. What else do I want? Man proposes, God disposes,” he said.
Ogogo, who died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer, had received Yayi’s support during his illness, according to his family.
Yayi described the actor’s death as a monumental loss to the creative and entertainment industry, recalling his contribution to Yoruba-language cinema and his impact on generations of Nigerians.
Recounting Ogogo’s illness, Yayi said he and others supported the actor and his family and made efforts to ensure he received medical attention, but accepted his death as God’s will. He commiserated with the family, friends, colleagues and people of Ilaro.
