2027: Oyo governorship aspirant Aborishade dumps PDP for ADC
By Adejayan Gbenga –
Human rights lawyer and 2027 governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Niyi Aborishade, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Aborishade announced his defection on Tuesday while speaking with journalists in Ibadan, citing the deepening internal crisis within the PDP as the reason for his decision.
He noted that persistent internal conflicts and the inability of party leaders to resolve differences had weakened internal democracy and raised concerns about the party’s ability to field a credible candidate in the next general election.
According to him, the refusal of key actors within the PDP to heed calls for reconciliation made it impossible for him to continue his political ambition on the party’s platform.
Aborishade described the ADC as a party committed to democracy, fairness and equity, adding that it offers a more stable and inclusive platform for his political aspirations.
The governorship aspirant disclosed that he defected with supporters from all 33 local government areas of Oyo State, noting that many of them are leaders within the PDP.
He expressed confidence that the influx of new members would strengthen the ADC and position the party as a formidable political force in the state.
Reacting to the development, the ADC Chairman in Oyo State, Alhaji Yinka Olona, stated that the PDP had lost relevance and described the ADC as the only viable opposition capable of providing a credible alternative.
