2027 politics must be guided by maturity, tolerance — Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on politicians and citizens to approach the 2027 election season with maturity, tolerance and a strong sense of national responsibility.
Speaking on Wednesday after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Ramat Square Eid Ground in Maiduguri, Borno State, Shettima warned against divisive comments and actions capable of threatening the country’s peace and stability.
The Vice President said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to easing the economic difficulties facing Nigerians through ongoing reforms and targeted interventions.
According to him, governments at both the federal and state levels are taking deliberate measures to cushion the impact of economic challenges on citizens.
“Governments at all levels are poised to ameliorate the sufferings of the Nigerian people,” Shettima said.
He urged Nigerians to remain patient and continue supporting the administration as it works to stabilise the economy, strengthen security and create more opportunities for citizens.
“As we enter the political phase, there is a need for maturity, forbearance and generosity of spirit in our political interactions. We must avoid inflammatory statements and actions capable of overheating the polity because what binds us together as Nigerians supersedes whatever divides us,” he said.
The Vice President also appealed to Nigerians to continue praying for peace and stability across the country, stressing the importance of unity amid global tensions, including the crisis in the Middle East.
