Lagos APC targets five million votes in 2027 elections

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has set a target of five million votes in the 2027 general elections, urging party leaders to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, improve coordination and work together to achieve electoral victory.
The state APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the target at a strategic retreat attended by party leaders, campaign council members and other stakeholders in Lagos. He said every local government, Local Council Development Area, ward and polling unit must have clear responsibilities, adding that party leaders would be assessed based on their contributions to electoral success.
Ojelabi also urged members to improve engagement with residents and communicate government policies and achievements more effectively. He warned against taking supporters for granted, stressing that the target would require sustained voter mobilisation, accountability and regular assessment of the party’s strengths and weaknesses.
In his welcome address, former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, called for unity and better coordination among party members. He urged leaders to resolve internal disagreements through dialogue and place the collective interest of the APC above personal ambitions, noting that divisions could undermine its chances in the elections.
Similarly, the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, described Lagos as a strategic political centre and urged members to work towards victory for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other party candidates. He cautioned against selective voting, called for reconciliation among aggrieved members and emphasised the need to prepare and verify polling-unit agents ahead of the elections.
Similarly, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged party members to remain committed despite political challenges, using the example of a ₦1,000 note to illustrate that pressure does not diminish a person’s value. He praised Yilwatda’s loyalty to the party and encouraged members to return to their communities to promote the APC’s message and government achievements.
The APC governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, highlighted the importance of data-driven planning and measurable results in governance. He cited the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency and investments in transportation, water supply, drainage, waste management and electricity as areas requiring sustained attention, adding that government performance should be assessed through tangible outcomes.
The speakers collectively called for stronger coordination between party structures and government institutions, improved public engagement and sustained grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections. They said the party must translate its political structures and government achievements into measurable electoral gains to meet its five-million-vote target.
