2027: Kwankwaso rules out stepping down for ADC
Rabiu Kwankwaso, vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has ruled out withdrawing from the 2027 presidential election in favour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other political party.
Kwankwaso, who is running alongside the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, said the party remained committed to the contest and confident of its chances of winning.
He stated this in a statement on Sunday while responding to allegations by the ADC Presidential Campaign Council that he was weakening the opposition to benefit President Bola Tinubu.
The ADC campaign council, through its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, had accused Kwankwaso of targeting opposition leaders instead of holding the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government accountable.
The criticism followed Kwankwaso’s call for Atiku Abubakar, the ADC presidential candidate, to step aside for Obi ahead of the 2027 election.
However, the former Kano State governor dismissed the allegations, describing the attacks on himself, Obi and the NDC as unnecessary and unhelpful.
He accused the ADC campaign team of attempting to create divisions and spread misleading claims about his party’s presidential ticket.
“Rather than focusing on presenting the competence, credibility, and capacity of their own candidate as we have consistently done by placing our credentials and record of achievements before Nigerians, the ADC Presidential Campaign Council appears intent on creating mischief against our party and ticket,” he said.
