Oyo 2027: Alli’s camp challenges Makinde, Adekanmbi over political violence

The campaign organisation of Senator Sharafadeen Alli has challenged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Bimbo Adekanmbi, to allow security agencies to investigate and prosecute anyone linked to attacks on opposition members.

The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) made the call in response to allegations by the Adekanmbi Campaign Organisation that it and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were falsely linking APM members to the killing of an APC member, Ridwan Adeyemi, and attacks on opposition figures in Ibadan on October 7.

Those reportedly attacked included Tawakalit Alli, wife of the APC governorship candidate, as well as lawmakers Remi Oseni and Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo.

In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, SSACO accused the APM campaign organisation of making excuses instead of addressing concerns over the alleged violence.

The organisation also rejected the argument that public complaints about the attacks could undermine the work of security agencies or allow criminals to disguise their activities as political violence.

“Instead of reining in their violent goons and allowing the people of Oyo State to live in peace and vote for their preferred candidates in the 2027 elections, APM in Oyo State has been coming up with illogical arguments to explain away its guilt,” the statement said.

SSACO alleged that the APM had offered conflicting explanations, claiming initially that APC members were attacking their own candidates and members before questioning the evidence linking the party to the incidents.

It challenged Makinde and Adekanmbi to cooperate with security agencies in identifying those responsible for the killing and other attacks rather than dismissing the APC’s concerns.
