2027: Tinubu knows about my Rainbow Coalition, says Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, said President Bola Tinubu knows about his political activities, including the “Rainbow Coalition” he is mobilising ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike disclosed during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday night, as he pushed back against the position of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over his political activities.

“There is nothing that I do that I don’t tell Mr President. I’m not answerable to APC governors,” Wike said.

His comments came a day after the APC Governors’ Forum rejected political alliances or arrangements that could undermine the party’s candidates in the 2027 elections.

The forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, said its members would not participate in, support or endorse any alliance capable of weakening the APC or affecting the electoral prospects of its candidates.

But Wike maintained that his political support is directed at Tinubu’s re-election and does not amount to support for the APC as a party.

He also rejected the suggestion that his Rainbow Coalition was an arrangement with the APC, saying it was intended to mobilise support for Tinubu across political parties while allowing parties to field their own candidates for other elective positions.

Wike questioned the governors’ argument that cross-party support for Tinubu could confuse, citing states where voters backed different parties in the 2023 presidential and legislative elections.
