FG reveals plan to revive Kaduna Textile Industry at northern stakeholders meeting
By Kunle Sanni –
The Federal Government has unveiled plans to revive the defunct Kaduna Textile industry as part of its strategy to drive economic growth and industrialization across Nigeria.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, made the announcement on Tuesday during a two-day interactive stakeholders’ session in Kaduna, aimed at strengthening government-citizen engagement.
Akume, who led a federal delegation comprising northern appointees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, described the move as part of the administration’s commitment to restoring Nigeria’s industrial base, particularly in the North.
“We intend to revisit those good old days of the Kaduna Textile to further boost and solidify the economy of the country via industrialisation,” Akume said.
He emphasized that President Tinubu is pursuing a development agenda focused on eight key areas, with industrial diversification at its core. Reviving legacy industries like Kaduna Textile, he said, will play a crucial role in achieving that vision.
“Tinubu is doing a lot in about eight different areas to ensure that Nigeria experiences holistic development in all spheres of endeavour,” the SGF added.
The Kaduna Textile Limited, once a major employer and a symbol of northern industrial strength, has suffered decades of decline due to policy neglect, infrastructure collapse, and global competition. Its potential revival is seen as a step toward job creation, regional economic revitalization, and reducing dependency on imports.
Akume praised the progress made under the Tinubu administration, stating that in just over a year in office, significant groundwork has been laid to reposition Nigeria’s economy.
