The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps has arrested a 28-year-old man, Olapade Ifeoluwa, over an alleged sexual assault involving a seven-year-old girl in Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti South-West Local Government Area.
The corps’ Head of Communications, Adeleye Adewale, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the suspect was apprehended by operatives following a complaint from residents of the community.
Adewale said preliminary investigations linked the suspect to the alleged offence, leading to his arrest and immediate transfer into Amotekun custody.
He added that the suspect and the minor involved were taken to the Ekiti State Amotekun Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti for further investigation and necessary action.
The corps said it is working with relevant authorities to ensure the matter is handled in line with the law and that the rights of all parties are protected.
Amotekun also recalled a similar incident in September in Are-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, where operatives intervened in an alleged attempt involving a 13-year-old girl.
It added that the suspect in that case was handed over to the Rapid Response Squad of the Ekiti State Police Command for further investigation.
