As pre-election activities gain momentum in Kwara State, various stakeholders have expressed positive remarks about Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar’s intention to run for the 2027 governorship election
Describing the senator as an experienced politician whose background as a lawmaker gives an edge over contemporaries, key political players told Western Post that Umar’s candidacy would be embraced by most residents of Kwara State.
For instance, a political analyst based in Ilorin, Dr. Musa Bello, said “Senator Umar’s legislative experience and involvement in development initiatives have made him one of the figures to watch out for in the coming election cycle.”
According to him, since his election to the Nigerian Senate in 2019, Umar has sponsored and supported more than 30 bills and motions, facilitating several constituency projects and programmes across parts of the state.
Similarly, a youth leader in Ilorin West Local Government Area, Ahmed Lawal, said many young people in the state believe in Umar.
In his words, “The senator’s experience could contribute to sustaining the ongoing development efforts in Kwara state.”
In the same vein, a community leader in Kwara South, Mrs. Funke Adeyemi, noted that the senator’s involvement in community programmes has further consolidated his visibility across the state,
As postulated by her, Umar’s fame is an indication that his outstanding achievements in the last 7 years at the Senate, political antecedents and alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu could shape political calculations within the ruling All Progressives Congress to his favor
