8,000 Osun hunters endorse Oyebamiji for governor, back Tinubu’s second term

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

About 8,000 hunters under the aegis of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) have thrown their weight behind the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 and the governorship aspiration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the 2026 poll.

The endorsement came during a gathering held at the Tinubu/Shettima campaign office in Osogbo, where the group urged President Tinubu to assent to the bill passed by the 10th National Assembly, aimed at strengthening national efforts against terrorism and banditry.

The Executive Director of Project Implementation at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Remi Omowaiye, who represented Oyebamiji at the meeting, raised concerns over what he described as a steady decline in security across Osun State since 2022.

He highlighted recurring incidents of kidnappings, killings, and communal unrest in areas such as Ifon, Ilobu, Erin, Esa-Oke, and Ora-Igbomina, where residents were often forced to pay ransoms.

Omowaiye further alleged that the Amotekun corps has been politicised, and accused the current administration of disengaging previously employed workers without providing replacements.

He stated, “Security is apolitical; it is a collective responsibility. I am aware that you wrote several letters to the present government for assistance in the area of security, but nothing was done. This government has been indecisive on security issues. I want to assure you that when AMBO is elected, he will ensure that you are fully incorporated into the security architecture with the state police. We are also working to ensure that President Tinubu assents to your bill.”

The endorsement for President Tinubu’s re-election and Oyebamiji’s candidacy was formally moved by the hunters’ coordinator, Hammed Nurein, and supported by members in a voice agreement. The group later prayed traditionally for their victories in 2026 and 2027.

Also speaking, a former Senior Special Assistant to the Osun State Governor on Students’ Affairs and Social Mobilisation, Kehinde Ayantunji, urged APC members to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
