Minister of State for Labour Onyejeocha resigns to pursue elective office

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has resigned from her position in the Federal Government.

Mrs Onyejeocha announced her resignation on Friday through a post on X, where she expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in his administration.

“It is with a heart full of gratitude that I announce my resignation as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment. This decision comes with profound gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve Nigeria in his administration,” she wrote.

She added that her resignation marks a transition rather than a departure from public service.

“This is not an end but a new beginning. I remain committed to service, to progress, and to building the Nigeria we all deserve,” she stated.

Her resignation comes three days after the 31 March deadline issued by President Tinubu directing ministers and political appointees intending to contest elective positions to step down, in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.

Mrs Onyejeocha previously served as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State from 2007 to 2023. She is reportedly preparing to contest for a return to the National Assembly under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
