Tinubu celebrates Gbenga Daniel at 70 for his service to Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to former Ogun State governor and senator, Gbenga Daniel, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, describing him as a distinguished engineer, entrepreneur and influential political figure whose contributions have shaped Nigeria’s development.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the President congratulated Daniel on reaching the milestone age, highlighting his achievements in governance, business and national service.
Tinubu praised Daniel’s professional excellence and political career, noting that his success was built on hard work, resilience, wisdom and courage. He said the senator had earned national recognition through his contributions to both the private sector and public service.
The President recalled that Daniel founded engineering firm Kresta Laurel in 1990, noting that the company has grown into a major player in Nigeria’s electro-mechanical engineering sector, particularly in elevator installation and maintenance.
Reflecting on Daniel’s political career, Tinubu pointed to his tenure as governor of Ogun State from 2003 to 2011, during which his administration focused on industrialisation, infrastructure development, education and public-private partnerships. He highlighted key legacy projects such as the establishment of the Tai Solarin University of Education and the development of the state’s first agro-allied cargo airport.
Daniel currently serves as senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, a position he was elected to in 2023.
Tinubu also reflected on their long-standing political relationship, recalling Daniel’s support during his own gubernatorial campaign in Lagos State in 1999. According to the President, Daniel worked with other political associates and mobilised support groups to ensure a successful election and transition.
