Presidency seeks legal action against VDM over alleged fake Tinubu audio

The Presidency has called for legal action against social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over the circulation of an alleged fake audio involving President Bola Tinubu.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the call in a post shared on X on Wednesday, accusing the influencer of spreading false information through social media platforms.

According to Onanuga, the circulation of the audio amounted to an abuse of social media and should not go unpunished.

“This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu. This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform,” he wrote.

The presidential aide was reacting to a post by an X user identified as Aneex, who questioned why some Nigerians believed the voice in the viral recording belonged to the President.

In the trending video, VDM reportedly used the alleged leaked audio to discourage Nigerians from supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.

The development has continued to generate reactions on social media, with supporters and critics of the influencer debating the authenticity of the audio recording.

Neither VDM nor the Presidency has released further details regarding possible legal steps over the matter.
