The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ondo State Command, has arrested a 23-year-old man, Sodiq Yahaya, over the alleged theft of a motorcycle in the state.

Yahaya was reportedly arrested while attempting to move the motorcycle after NSCDC operatives placed it under surveillance following a tip-off from a resident who found its presence suspicious.

The suspect was arrested at about 10:30 a.m. on September 2, 2026, around the Agbogbo axis by personnel of the NSCDC Akure South Divisional Office, FERMA, after the resident alerted the security agency.

Preliminary investigation reportedly showed that the motorcycle had allegedly been stolen from Shasha Market, opposite AA Rano Filling Station, in Akure North Local Government Area.

The NSCDC said further investigation indicated that the suspect may be linked to a network involved in stealing and disposing of motorcycles, adding that Yahaya allegedly identified a man known as “Magamu” as a receiver of stolen motorcycles.

However, the suspect reportedly failed to provide sufficient information that could help investigators locate or identify the alleged receiver, prompting further efforts to uncover other members of the suspected network.

Meanwhile, the stolen motorcycle was traced to its owner, Mustapha Abdullah, who was reportedly outside Ondo State when the vehicle was stolen.

The State Commandant, Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, commended the resident for alerting the authorities and urged members of the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities and cooperate with security agencies to combat crime.
