The Future Eagles suffered their first defeat at the ongoing FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan on Wednesday evening, losing 3-6 to Benin Republic after going six matches unbeaten in the competition.
Captain Timothy Ogar Ijachi scored twice to take his tally to 11 goals in the tournament, while Wisdom Boniface netted Nigeria’s other goal for his second of the competition.
Ijachi has been one of Nigeria’s standout performers in Baku, scoring in the opening-day 3-3 draw with South Sudan and the 2-2 draw with Jordan on Sunday morning before grabbing a brace in the 3-3 draw with The Gambia later that evening.
On Monday morning, he scored the winner in Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Cyprus before finding the net again in the 1-1 draw with Pakistan hours later.
The prolific captain continued his impressive run on Wednesday morning, scoring a hat-trick in Nigeria’s emphatic 7-0 victory over New Caledonia before adding another brace in the defeat to Benin Republic.
