Sowore accuses Oyebanji, DSS of complicity in Ekiti attack

Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has accused Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and the Department of State Services (DSS) of complicity in an attack on him and his team in Ado-Ekiti.

Sowore alleged that the attackers were government-sponsored thugs who operated with the support of the DSS, accusing the security agency of providing them with information about his whereabouts to facilitate the assault.

The activist made the allegations in a series of posts on X on Friday, shortly after an interview on Midas FM 90.5 in the Ekiti State capital.

He said he and members of his team sustained injuries during the attack, sharing photographs of himself and one of his aides receiving treatment on hospital beds.

“We have been brutally attacked and injured by well-armed government-sponsored thugs in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State,” Sowore wrote.

“The DSS provided these attackers with our exact location, enabling them to carry out this vicious assault. We won’t back down! We have a country to liberate!”

In another post, Sowore alleged that the assailants came from the Ekiti Government House and received tracking and operational support from the DSS.

He also accused DSS operatives of trailing and harassing his team since their arrival in the state a day earlier.

According to him, the operatives had extended their alleged harassment to a business establishment where his team had eaten, threatening the manager against allowing them to use the premises again.

Sowore also faulted the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Falade Michael, for reportedly describing the incident as a mere altercation.

He maintained that the police commissioner had visited the scene and witnessed the injuries sustained by him and his team, arguing that the police response downplayed the severity of the incident.

“The Commissioner saw the injuries, witnessed the aftermath of the violence, and was fully aware of the seriousness of what happened,” he said.

“Yet his Command has chosen to trivialise the attack, even describing the injuries as minor.”
