The Ondo State Government has arrested 30 residents for allegedly violating environmental sanitation regulations during the state’s monthly exercise held on Saturday.
The arrests were made by environmental health officers deployed across the state to monitor compliance with sanitation laws and ensure residents observed the exercise.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Environmental Health and Safety, Samuel Bolala, confirmed the arrests while speaking with journalists in Akure.
Bolala said the suspects would be arraigned before the state’s Special Environmental Court for prosecution.
He explained that the exercise was aimed at promoting proper sanitation practices and protecting residents from health risks associated with unclean surroundings.
He urged residents to dispose of waste properly and maintain cleanliness in their homes, markets, streets and other public spaces.
The governor’s aide also called for greater cooperation among government agencies, sanitation officials and residents, stressing that maintaining a clean environment was a shared responsibility.
He added that the exercise was part of Aiyedatiwa’s OUR EASE agenda, which seeks to improve public health and create a safer, healthier environment across Ondo State.
