Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has taken to the runway at the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week, modelling a creation by Nigerian fashion designer Ugo Monye.
The governor made the appearance on Saturday night at the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, where he walked alongside professional models during the fashion showcase.
His participation attracted attention as he joined the models to present one of Monye’s designs, briefly stepping away from his usual public duties to support the creative industry.
Sharing a video of the appearance on his official X account, Sanwo-Olu said he had stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the designer.
He also described Lagos as a growing hub for fashion, creativity and culture, expressing delight at supporting the people contributing to the industry’s development.
The appearance marked Sanwo-Olu’s second documented participation in a Lagos Fashion Week runway show. In October 2023, he also walked alongside professional models during a presentation by Nigerian designer Emmy Kasbit.
Founded by Omoyemi Akerele in 2011, Lagos Fashion Week provides a platform for African designers to showcase their collections, promote local craftsmanship and connect with stakeholders in the fashion industry.
Sanwo-Olu’s participation further highlighted the intersection of fashion, culture and public life, as Lagos continues to host platforms that showcase the work of creative talents and promote the state’s fashion industry.
