APC has 13 million members, controls 31 states ahead of 2027 polls, Yilwatda says

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that the ruling party is better positioned than its political rivals to win the 2027 general elections, citing its nationwide organisational structure and membership strength.

Yilwatda said the APC had about 13 million registered members and a political network extending across all 774 local government areas in the country.

He made the remarks while receiving a pre-election fact-finding mission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), led by former Sierra Leone Vice-President, Victor Foh, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The chairman, according to a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Abimbola Tooki, said the APC was approximately three times larger than the next biggest political party in Nigeria.

He attributed the party’s advantage to its extensive structures, which include elected and appointed officials from the ward level through local government and state levels to the national leadership.

Yilwatda also cited the party’s control of 31 of the 36 states, 88 of the 109 Senate seats and 208 of the 360 House of Representatives seats as evidence of its political dominance.

“Our party is the largest political party in Nigeria. In terms of structure, organisation and membership, no other political party comes close to us. We are approximately three times larger than the next political party in the country,” he said.

He described the structures as the foundation of the APC’s political strength, adding that they gave the party the capacity to reach voters across different regions and demographic groups.

However, Yilwatda said the APC’s numerical and organisational advantage would not translate into efforts to undermine opposition parties or restrict democratic participation.
