Adc candidate calls on Tinubu to reconsider fuel subsidy removal policy

The African Democratic Congress candidate for Akure North and South Federal Constituency, Barrister Balarabe Abiodun Akinwumi, has urged President Bola Tinubu to review the removal of fuel subsidy to alleviate the severe economic hardship currently affecting Nigerians.

Speaking through a statement released by the Media Directorate of his campaign organisation, Akinwumi clarified that his appeal was aimed directly at easing the burden of soaring fuel costs on ordinary citizens rather than reintroducing the corruption that plagued the previous subsidy regime.

The parliamentary hopeful issued the clarification in direct response to criticism from Bright Eniafe, a member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council’s Media and Strategic Communications Committee.

Highlighting the systemic flaws of the previous system, Akinwumi emphasised that the subsidy itself was not the main issue, but rather the unchecked corruption associated with its administration.

Furthermore, the campaign organisation insisted that public policies must remain open to constructive scrutiny and should be adjusted whenever necessary to address the pressing concerns of the populace.

In light of these discussions, stakeholders and political opponents have been urged to look past partisan disagreements and focus on the substantive merits of the proposed relief measures.

Outlining his political vision, the candidate reiterated that his parliamentary ambition is anchored on the ‘Akure Balanced Diet’ agenda, which prioritises job creation, infrastructure development, poverty reduction, and effective legislative representation.

Consequently, the statement concluded that the residents of Akure North and South deserve a representative who will actively listen to their grievances, demand public accountability, and deliver practical solutions to their daily struggles.
