Oyo 2027: APM candidate challenges Alli to publish Senate scorecard

By Adejayan Gbenga

The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has challenged Senator Sharafadeen Alli to publicly present his legislative achievements before seeking to govern the state in the 2027 election.

Adekanmbi, through the APM Campaign Council, questioned Alli’s performance as the representative of Oyo South Senatorial District, arguing that his political experience and previous public offices should not automatically qualify him for the governorship.

The challenge was contained in a statement issued in Ibadan on Saturday by the Co-Director of Media and Publicity of the APM Campaign Council, Sulaimon Olanrewaju. The council expressed concern that Alli had allegedly focused on his political history rather than presenting measurable achievements from his current position in the Senate.

It argued that the senator owed his constituents and the people of Oyo State an account of his legislative contributions, constituency projects, empowerment programmes and other interventions since assuming office. According to the council, political experience should be backed by demonstrable results and accountability.

“The people of Oyo cannot be persuaded to reward underperformance with elevation. The question before the electorate is simple: if a senator cannot point to a compelling record of achievements while representing one senatorial district, apart from billboards, on what basis should he be entrusted with the responsibility of governing an entire state?” the statement queried.

The campaign council further challenged Alli to provide evidence of his contributions to youth empowerment, economic development, infrastructure and other initiatives aimed at improving the lives of residents in Oyo South. It maintained that voters deserved to know what the senator had achieved with the mandate entrusted to him.

It also argued that the governorship should not be treated as a reward for political longevity or previous public offices, insisting that the position required candidates with records of impact, innovation and effective service delivery. The council added that the 2027 election should be determined by candidates’ achievements, policy proposals and capacity to deliver development rather than political titles.

Meanwhile, the APM campaign organisation promoted Adekanmbi’s Roadmap for Continued Development as an alternative vision for the state, with emphasis on accountability, economic growth, infrastructure, job creation and improved living standards. It expressed confidence in his candidacy, urging voters to demand verifiable achievements and hold all governorship aspirants accountable for their records.
