Adeleke confident of landslide victory in Osun governorship election

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged residents of the state to disregard what he described as rumours and fear-mongering surrounding the August 15 governorship election, expressing confidence that he would secure victory by a wide margin.

The governor, in a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, said concerns being raised in some quarters over possible election manipulation and political violence were unfounded.

Adeleke called on the people of Osun to ignore the scaremongering, rigging rumours and threats, stressing that those peddling fear have only strengthened the determination of the people to sustain and retain good governance.

He noted that residents and voters are resolved to ensure free and fair elections within the ambit of the law, declaring that “no one, I repeat, no one can deny Osun people their legitimate right to choose their leaders”.

“We are the cradle of the Yoruba nation. We are the ancestral state of Mr President. No security or electoral official will dare attempt to set Osun State on fire. No federal official will contemplate rigging the forthcoming election in Osun State.

“We will resist any move or ploy to tamper with the electoral process. We are closely monitoring all pre-election activities, while a machinery has been put in place for both the election and post-election period. We are not taking anything to chance,” he said.

On the political crisis within the state’s main opposition party, Governor Adeleke called on all politicians of goodwill to join hands with him to sustain the current delivery of good governance across the state.

Adeleke also extended an invitation to politicians across party lines to join the Accord Party, saying his political movement transcends partisan interests and is focused on advancing development across the state.
