Adeleke seeks Tinubu’s intervention over killings in Osun, demands credible election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, on Monday called on President Bola Tinubu to stop the killings in the state and ensure that the August 15 governorship election is not rigged.

Addressing supporters at a campaign rally in the Sabo area of Osogbo, Adeleke appealed to the President to intervene, saying: “President Bola Tinubu, something is happening in Osun. They are killing our people. You are the President; you are the father of us all. Osun has said it won’t allow rigging. There won’t be rigging in Osun”.

The governor said the people of Osun wanted nothing short of a free, fair and credible election, warning: “Remember what happened in 1983. It started in Yorubaland when they cheated Bola Ige and Ajasin. Osun will not agree. We want a free and fair election”.

Adeleke also accused the police of compromising their neutrality and urged the President to direct security agencies to focus on kidnappers and other criminals instead of intimidating innocent people.

The governor reminded Tinubu that the Accord Party had endorsed him for the 2027 presidential election and questioned why, despite the endorsement, his supporters were allegedly being killed.

He also appealed to the President to call former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, to order, alleging that he was responsible for the political crisis in the state.

“You worked for this democracy; don’t let Oyetola destroy everything. He is the one who spoiled the APC in Osun. He is fighting everybody,” Adeleke said.

He urged his supporters to turn out en masse on August 15, vote for him and defend their votes until the results were announced.
