Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has urged members of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their orientation course to the development of their host communities.
The governor made the remarks on Tuesday at the passing-out ceremony of the corps members held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko, through the State Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare.
He encouraged the corps members to actively participate in Community Development Service projects and to work together to address genuine needs in their host communities, with a view to leaving lasting impacts after their service year.
Aiyedatiwa described Ondo State as peaceful and hospitable, advising the corps members to respect local customs and traditions while maintaining cordial relationships with their host communities and remaining neutral in political and traditional matters.
The governor assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to their security and welfare, saying adequate measures had been put in place to ensure a safe and conducive environment throughout their stay.
He also urged them to take advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme to acquire practical skills that would promote self-reliance and productivity after service.
Aiyedatiwa further admonished the corps members to uphold the values of integrity, discipline, and patriotism, warning against misconduct and unethical behaviour that could undermine the image of the NYSC scheme and the nation.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of letters of commendation to outstanding camp officials, including Mr. Thompson Yekini in the NYSC category and the camp Regimental Sergeant Major, WO Atanda Gbenga of the Nigerian Army.
