APC banks on Hamzat, Sonayon-James ticket for Lagos 2027 race

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially unveiled Damilola Sonayon-James, a Badagry princess and the party’s Lagos State Deputy Woman Leader, as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the February 2027 general election.
Western Post had exclusively reported a few weeks ago that the party had settled for Sonayon-James as Hamzat’s deputy governorship candidate.

Announcing her nomination, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said the decision followed extensive consultations and a rigorous selection process.
According to Ojelabi, Sonayon-James emerged as the preferred choice after careful consideration of her competence, leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance, party loyalty, and ability to contribute meaningfully to the continued development of Lagos State.
He noted that she distinguished herself through her exceptional commitment to service, unwavering dedication to the party, strength of character, innovative thinking, and proven leadership record across the public, private, and political sectors.

Expressing confidence in the APC ticket, Ojelabi described the Hamzat-Sonayon-James partnership as a blend of experience, innovation, grassroots connection, and visionary leadership capable of advancing the developmental aspirations of Lagos residents.
The APC chairman also called on Lagosians to support the party in the 2027 governorship election.
He said a vote for the APC would represent a vote for continuity, prosperity, inclusive growth, and the realization of a greater Lagos.
