APC governors: We’re not part of Wike-led rainbow coalition

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have distanced themselves from the political arrangement being championed by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governors, under the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), said they would not support any alliance capable of weakening the APC or affecting the chances of candidates contesting under the party’s platform.
Chairman of the forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, stated this on Monday in Abuja after a meeting of APC governors, saying the forum had resolved to support President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
“The forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support, or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” he said.
“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate.”
The Imo governor said the governors’ campaign activities ahead of the election would be directed towards all APC candidates, stressing that their commitment remained with candidates sponsored by the party.
“Because our candidates are standing in the election as being sponsored by our party, the governor’s campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates,” Uzodimma said.
The declaration comes amid growing political activity around Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, a cross-party political movement the FCT minister has been promoting ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike, a former Rivers State governor and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has backed Tinubu’s re-election despite serving in the APC-led Federal Government. He has argued that the Rainbow Coalition is designed to mobilise support for Tinubu across party lines while allowing members to support preferred candidates in other elections.
