Babachir Lawal dumps ADC for NDC, backs Obi-Kwankwaso ticket

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), nearly four months after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Lawal announced his defection in Abuja on Tuesday after a meeting with the NDC leadership led by the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson.

He also declared his support for the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Lawal said Nigerians concerned about the challenges facing the country would have no choice but to support the NDC ticket.

“I have nothing much to say, except to say that anybody, anybody at all in Nigeria that has the interest of our country at large, has the sympathy for the suffering that is going on in our country, which include insecurity, economic deprivation, hunger, ignorance and disease, will have no choice but to join a party that presents Peter Obi and Kwankwaso as its presidential candidate and running mate,” he said.

Presenting Lawal with his membership card, Dickson described him as a “great organiser and mobiliser”.

Dickson said Lawal had witnessed the activities of different political parties, including those that promised change but failed to deliver it.

He welcomed the former SGF to the NDC and described the party as a growing opposition platform.
