BREAKING: Aiyedatiwa approves implementation of FGN-ASUU wage agreement in Ondo

The Ondo State Government has approved the full implementation of the Federal Government-ASUU wage agreement for academic staff in its state-owned universities.
The decision followed a series of meetings between the government and tertiary institution unions over outstanding salary, allowance and welfare issues affecting workers in the institutions.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the discussions involved the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, National Association of Academic Technologists and Non-Academic Staff Union.
According to the statement, the meetings culminated in a resolution on September 21, 2026, covering outstanding issues relating to salary adjustments, allowances and other welfare concerns.
Under the agreement, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa approved the domestication of the Federal Government-ASUU agreement on the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure for academic staff, taking into account the peculiarities of the state.
Aiyedatiwa said his administration considered education a priority and would continue to engage the unions to promote industrial harmony and reduce disruptions to academic activities in the state’s tertiary institutions.
He said the government would prioritise workers’ welfare, particularly in the education sector, adding that a motivated workforce was important to achieving academic excellence and improving the institutions.
Reacting to the development, the ASUU chapter of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, commended the governor for approving the agreement. In a letter signed by its Secretary, Dr. Y.K. Kazeem, the union said the decision demonstrated commitment to workers’ welfare and pledged to support academic stability and improved productivity.
