Busari sues to void Hamzat’s Accord governorship ticket

Hon. Olakunle Busari, a governorship aspirant of the Accord Party in Oyo State, has filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Ibadan seeking to nullify the emergence of Mr Oriyomi Hamzat as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Busari, through his counsel, Tunji Ogunrinde (SAN), is asking the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission to remove Hamzat’s name from its portal and replace it with his own as the party’s authentic governorship candidate.

The suit, marked FHC/IB/CS/97/26, is based on Busari’s claim that Hamzat did not participate in the Accord Party’s direct governorship primary election held on May 26, 2026.

The aspirant argued that he secured the highest number of votes during the primary election and should therefore be recognised as the lawful winner and candidate of the party for the 2027 governorship poll.

Busari also alleged that Hamzat’s name was secretly uploaded to INEC’s portal by a faction of the Accord Party leadership without following the party’s established nomination process.

In addition to seeking recognition as the party’s candidate, Busari is asking the court to restrain INEC from recognising Hamzat’s nomination and prevent the media personality from presenting himself as the Accord Party’s governorship candidate.

The case is expected to determine who actually holds the party’s governorship ticket as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum in Oyo State.
