Residents of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, have continued to express concern over the hike in the price of petrol from N850 to N1250.
The hike is traceable to the crisis currently happening in the Middle East region.
Western Post observed the noticeable scarcity of vehicles on major roads and streets in Ilorin.
Reacting to the issue, residents of Ilorin openly decried the situation, with many stating that the current development has aggravated hardship.
Mariam Ibrahim, a resident of Olorun-Sogo community, lamented the hike in the cost of transportation, noting that she currently pays double her usual fare. According to her, the situation is eating deep into her finances as she finds herself spending more than she budgeted. She went on to pray that peace return to the conflicting regions in order for normalcy to be restored.
Similarly, while speaking with our correspondent, Lawal Aliyu disclosed that the price of fuel is becoming unbearable for him, as his salary wouldn’t be sufficient for his family after taking away the sum he needs for transportation. He urged the government to come to the aid of Nigerians and bring succour, adding that he is gradually losing hope.
Western Post equally observed the persistent complaint of incessant power outage amongst respondents, a situation they claim has remained unchanged for over three weeks.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the lack of a steady power supply has stalled the production of clean water in certain communities, thereby increasing the risk of health issues. Areas currently battling with a lack of portable water supply include: Olorun-Sogo, Adeta, Agaka, Oloje, Omoda, among others.
