Concern as section of newly commissioned flyover subsides in Osun

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

A section of the newly constructed Lameco Flyover in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has caved in barely 23 days after it was opened to traffic.

The 672-metre flyover, which was constructed at a cost of N8,521,632,257.28, was commissioned on July 1, 2026.

The affected section reportedly subsided in the early hours of Friday following rainfall in Osogbo.

The incident raised concerns among motorists and residents, many of whom diverted to alternative routes after noticing the damaged section.

A visit by our correspondent showed visible cracks and a sunken asphalt surface on one lane of the bridge, forcing motorists to slow down while navigating the affected stretch.

Some commuters expressed fears over the safety of the bridge and urged the authorities to carry out immediate repairs to prevent further deterioration.

Access to the flyover was later restricted as operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps were deployed to the scene to prevent motorists and pedestrians from using the affected section.
