Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, over his victory in the Osun State governorship election, saying the outcome reflected the determination of the people to defend their votes.

Addressing a press conference at the governor’s country home in Ede on Tuesday, Davido said he had no doubt Adeleke would emerge victorious, although he had been concerned about possible manipulation by institutions.

“I had no doubt that His Excellency would win. I just was a little bit wary of manipulations from the institutions. Apart from that, we thank God that the Osun people stood firm and made it happen for us,” he said.

The singer, who is the chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, said the victory reflected the determination of Osun residents who voted for Adeleke and defended their votes from the polling units through the local government collation centres.

“We came out victorious in this governorship election. God is grateful. To the Osun people that voted for us and defended their votes from the polling units, all the way to the local collation centres, the love was there,” Davido said.

He said Adeleke’s re-election demonstrated that political leaders who worked for the people could count on their support, urging other government officials to learn from the governor’s experience.

“My uncle, the governor, should be an example to all other government officials out there. It means that if you work well for the people, the people will work well for you no matter what,” he said.

Davido also unveiled plans to contribute to youth development through sports and entertainment, saying efforts were underway to establish a recreational centre featuring football, swimming, tennis, basketball and track facilities, as well as a concert centre to create opportunities for Osun youths.
