Oyebamiji calls for peace, alerts police to attacks on APC supporters

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded Osun State governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji, has urged his supporters to remain calm and peaceful while calling on security agencies to intervene in alleged attacks on APC members.

Oyebamiji, in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Osogbo, said the reported attacks on APC members had taken a new dimension in the 24 hours following the election.

He urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to act swiftly to halt what he described as an “ugly trend” and protect members and supporters of the party.

The APC candidate also appealed to his supporters to remain peaceful and continue with their daily activities as the state enters the post-election period.

Oyebamiji said although he had hoped for a different outcome in the election, he respected the position of the electoral umpire and supported the APC’s ongoing review of the election result.

He expressed appreciation to APC members, leaders, volunteers and voters who supported his candidacy and the alternative vision presented during the campaign.

“I commend you all for your steadfastness, commitment, sacrifice and tireless efforts throughout the just-concluded governorship election. Your unwavering support for my candidacy and your belief in the prosperity agenda we presented to the people of Osun are experiences I will forever cherish,” he said.

Oyebamiji added that the end of the campaign and election did not mean the end of the causes and values promoted by his campaign, pledging continued commitment to the effective, inclusive and rapid development of Osun.
