The National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Council, Ondo State Axis, has suspended its planned protest in Akure following the Ondo State Government’s intervention in the crisis affecting tertiary institutions in the state.

The students’ body had earlier scheduled the demonstration for Tuesday, August 18, 2026, to press for an end to disruptions in academic activities and other challenges affecting students across the state.

The decision followed an engagement between the NANS JCC leadership, led by its Chairman, Comrade Adekanye Mayomi Adeboye, and the state government over the demands raised by the students.

According to the students’ body, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa approved a 60 per cent increase in the monthly subventions to all state-owned tertiary institutions as part of measures to strengthen their finances and improve their operations.

NANS also disclosed that the governor approved the implementation of the agreement reached between the Federal Government and relevant university unions across applicable state-owned tertiary institutions.

The association said the measures were capable of addressing some of the issues fueling the industrial crisis while improving staff welfare and creating conditions for the restoration of uninterrupted academic activities.

“We welcome the intervention announced by the Ondo State Government and appreciate its willingness to engage with the student body. However, the suspension of the protest should not be misconstrued as a withdrawal of our demands or a relaxation of our vigilance,” NANS said.

The students urged the government and tertiary institution authorities to implement the resolutions without delay, stressing that it would continue to monitor the process.
