Eight years on, Abesan Primary Healthcare Centre, Ipaja remains an eyesore
Eight years into the administration of Princess Olabisi Adebajo, a.k.a Abisco as the elected Chairperson for Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area, the Akinyele Primary Healthcare Centre at Abesan, Ipaja in Lagos has remained uncompleted and an eyesore.
The project, started by the administration of Hon. Abdul-Rasheed Abiodun Mafe held immense promise of health care delivery for people in the community.
However, the promise has not been kept as the project has stalled throughout the administration of the current chairperson. The reason for this remains unclear.
A visit to the centre by WESTERN POST, showed the walls of the building already plastered, are now partially ruined with cracks appearing.
The healthcare centre lacks basic facilities required for it to function adequately.
But despite it’s current deplorable state, patients were seen going in and out of the healthcare centre with nurses on ground to receive them.
WESTERN POST correspondent spoke to a nurse on duty who explained that currently the healthcare centre does not provide services to pregnant women.
‘’We only receive minor cases here and there are one or two doctors they can see . Many of the maternal healthcare cases are being referred to Aregbesola Primary healthcare centre in Egbeda since the government is now giving free healthcare to pregnant women in Lagos.
Speaking to a resident of Abesan Estate, Ms Sansa lamented the poor state of the primary healthcare centre.
‘’The hospital does not have windows, no doors, it is an uncompleted building. I wonder why the chairperson of Mosan Okunola LCDA haven’t done anything to develop the place and she has been chairperson of that local government for almost eight years now.”
Another resident who pleaded for anonymity said though the primary healthcare centre was where her daughter received her immunization, the environment is very poor.
“That is not an healthcare centre, but what can I do since the healthcare is the closest to my house and it is free here.”
When WESTERN POST sent a message to Princess Adebajo for information on what the local council development is doing to complete the healthcare centre and equip it with modern healthcare equipments, no response was received.
