Ekiti PDP claims Tinubu withholding support for Oyebanji’s reelection
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s failure to publicly acknowledge Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2026 governorship election suggests he is distancing himself from the governor’s reelection bid.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director of Media and Communications of the Wole Oluyede Campaign Organisation, Chief Sanya Atofarati, the party noted that despite the APC’s consensus process, President Tinubu had neither congratulated nor publicly endorsed Oyebanji.
It added that the governor’s emergence remains the subject of a legal challenge by aggrieved APC aspirants.
The PDP also cited the President’s absence from the commissioning of the flyover named after him in Ado-Ekiti, arguing that the development raised questions about the level of support for the governor within the party’s leadership.
According to the opposition party, the contrast is more noticeable because Tinubu had publicly acknowledged the APC governorship candidate in neighbouring Osun State, while remaining silent on Oyebanji’s candidacy.
The PDP further criticised the Oyebanji administration over security challenges in parts of the state, alleging that incidents of kidnapping and other criminal activities continue to pose concerns for residents.
The party also accused the government of failing to adequately address issues relating to pension arrears, infrastructure, healthcare, education and youth unemployment, despite nearly four years in office.
It described the recently commissioned flyover as a symbol of misplaced priorities, claiming that the administration had focused more on image-building projects than addressing pressing challenges confronting the people.
The PDP urged Ekiti voters to support its governorship candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, in the forthcoming election, insisting that the state needs a new direction.
