Enugu East endorses Tinubu, Mbah for second term ahead of 2027
Residents of Enugu East Senatorial District on Saturday endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah for a second term in office, pledging massive support for both leaders in the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement came during the Ofu Obi Mega Rally held at Okpara Square, Enugu, where political leaders, traditional rulers and residents of the zone gathered to express support for the two leaders. The event also witnessed the donation of N300 million towards Mbah’s re-election bid and the presentation of an Ofo staff, a traditional symbol of authority and endorsement, to the governor.
Chairman of the planning committee, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, and the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the turnout reflected appreciation for the governor’s achievements and President Tinubu’s support for the state. They noted that developments across key sectors had transformed campaign promises into visible results.
Former Senate President Ken Nnamani declared his support for Mbah’s reelection, describing him as a visionary leader with clear ideas for the state’s development. Former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, also backed the governor, saying his performance had earned him support across political parties.
Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, who attended the rally alongside Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, said Mbah and Tinubu had demonstrated effective leadership through policies that had positively impacted Enugu State and the South-East region.
In his remarks, Mbah thanked the people for the confidence they placed in him in 2023, saying their support had enabled his administration to deliver projects in education, healthcare, transportation, water supply and infrastructure development across the state.
The governor highlighted achievements including the Smart Green Schools initiative, modern transport terminals, the launch of Enugu Air and growing investor interest in the state. He also disclosed that work would soon commence on a 660-megawatt coal-fired power plant aimed at improving electricity supply and boosting economic growth.
Mbah commended President Tinubu’s reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, saying they had strengthened states’ capacity to deliver development projects. He urged residents to remain united and protect the gains recorded so far, warning against political opportunists ahead of the 2027 elections.
