FCTA warns event centre, hotel owners against use by illegal organisations

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has warned owners of event centres, hotels and other public facilities in Abuja against allowing their premises to be used by illegal organisations.

The administration said lands allocated within the Federal Capital Territory are meant strictly for lawful activities, adding that title documents of facilities used for illegal gatherings risk revocation.

The warning was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka.

According to the statement, the move is part of efforts to strengthen security and support ongoing operations by security agencies in the nation’s capital.

The FCTA said the use of event centres, hotels and other public buildings would now be closely monitored to ensure that they are not used for activities capable of disrupting public peace.

It urged owners of such facilities to verify the legality of organisations seeking to use their premises and to ascertain the purpose of the gatherings before approving bookings.

The administration particularly advised operators of event centres and hotels to deal only with leaderships of political parties recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), especially during the current political season.

The statement also directed owners to maintain proper records of all transactions involving the use of their facilities.

“Failure to comply with this directive will result in the revocation of the title documents of such properties,” the statement added.
