FG seeks unified communication to strengthen security coordination
The Federal Government has said that a unified communication framework among ministries and government agencies will enhance coordination in addressing security challenges across the country.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in Abuja.
Idris noted that stronger interaction among ministries and departments would improve coordination in the fight against terrorism and banditry, noting that strategic communication plays a critical role in national security.
“The Federal Government believes that through interactions among ministries and departments of government, a strategic and unified communication framework can evolve that will boost the coordination of security actions in the fight against terrorism and banditry,” he said.
He explained that his ministry is engaging key government institutions to better understand their activities and ensure Nigerians are well informed about government policies, reforms and their impact on national development.
Responding, Tunji-Ojo said collaboration between the Ministries of Interior and Information is essential for effective dissemination of government policies, particularly in areas relating to citizenship, immigration management and national security.
He highlighted reforms carried out under the current administration, including the clearing of passport backlogs, the introduction of contactless passport renewal for Nigerians in the diaspora and the deployment of advanced border management technologies.
Tunji-Ojo also invited officials of the Ministry of Information and National Orientation to undertake a tour of key projects and reforms across agencies under the Interior Ministry, including the Nigerian Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
