As the world marks the 2025 edition of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace the nation’s cultural diversity with empathy, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to national unity.
In a message commemorating the global observance on Wednesday, Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria’s strength lies in its rich cultural mosaic of over 250 ethnic groups, each with its own language and heritage.
She said the diversity that defines Nigeria should be seen not as a dividing line, but as a powerful force for dialogue, development, and collective identity.
“I encourage every Nigerian to celebrate our cultural richness, to listen with empathy, and to lead with understanding,” the First Lady said. “Let us embrace this journey together and shape a brighter future for Nigeria and the world.”
She noted that the global day serves as a reminder of the profound strength that lies in human differences and the need for constant interaction and inclusion.
Senator Tinubu further urged citizens to build bridges of communication across ethnic, religious, and regional lines, and to recognize that unity is most meaningful when it is built on mutual respect and appreciation of one another’s heritage.
The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is observed annually on May 21 to deepen global understanding of cultural diversity and promote peace and sustainable development through inclusion.
