Group dismisses InterSociety’s killing claims as false, calls for probe
Civil society group, The Democratic Front (TDF) has described claims by Onitsha-based group, InterSociety, that 1,402 Christians were killed in 96 days as false and malicious, alleging that the report was aimed at tarnishing Nigeria’s image abroad.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group said the allegation was part of a sustained campaign of misinformation that should not be ignored.
The TDF argued that the claims lacked credible details, noting that no specific information was provided on when, where, or how the alleged killings occurred across the country.
The group also alleged that InterSociety and its leadership had previously been linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by security agencies, describing the latest report as irresponsible and inciting.
It maintained that while insecurity remains a challenge in Nigeria, both Christians and Muslims have been victims of violence, stressing that portraying the situation as a one-sided attack was misleading.
According to the group, the report could undermine Nigeria’s international image and diplomatic relations if left unchallenged.
“The Federal Government should ensure that InterSociety’s current propaganda and disinformation against Nigeria is not ignored or treated with kid gloves. The Onitsha-based NGO and its leaders should be held accountable,” the statement read.
The TDF called on the Federal Government to investigate the claims and take appropriate action, including prosecuting the group if it fails to provide verifiable evidence to support its allegations.
