The family of 25-year-old Kogi State indigene, Kehinde Onize, has demanded justice after her husband, Sadiq Ibrahim, allegedly hacked her to death in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Kehinde was reportedly killed during a domestic dispute in the Dalimore area of the state capital on Wednesday morning, about nine months after she married Ibrahim, a meat seller popularly known as Alfa Eleran.
The victim’s cousin, Lawrence Yusuf, who spoke on behalf of the family, alleged that Kehinde had been preparing to leave the marriage after becoming suspicious about the disappearance of some of her clothes and underwear.
Yusuf said Kehinde planned to travel to her sister’s residence in Idoani, Ondo State, on Thursday, September 10, under the guise of seeking work, as part of her plan to leave the marriage.
He alleged that on Wednesday morning, Kehinde was invited to the residence of her father’s friend, Lamidi Salawu, popularly known as “07,” by Salawu’s wife, who told her that Ibrahim wanted to see her.
According to Yusuf, Kehinde went to the residence unaware that Ibrahim would also be there. He said an attempt to resolve the marital dispute later turned violent, resulting in her death.
Yusuf said Salawu, his wife and the man who stood as Ibrahim’s father during the wedding had been taken into police custody, while Ibrahim allegedly fled with Kehinde’s phone and remained at large.
“We want Sadiq to be found and arrested. We want justice for Kehinde. Her parents are in pain and my family is in serious agony. She didn’t deserve this,” Yusuf said. The police had yet to publicly provide details of the investigation as of press time.
