JUST IN: Tinubu meets NSA, Defence Chief over insecurity in North-Central

By Kunle Sanni

President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, at the State House, Abuja.

The meeting, which is taking place at the President’s official residence within the Presidential Villa, comes just a day after Tinubu returned from a 19-day working visit to Europe. It is expected to focus on the recent violent attacks that have claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands in Plateau and Benue states.

While details of the meeting remain undisclosed as of press time, presidential aides said the President is receiving direct briefings from his top security chiefs as he seeks urgent solutions to the crisis.

The North-Central region, particularly Bokkos and Bassa in Plateau, and several communities in Benue, has witnessed a surge in coordinated attacks by armed assailants in recent weeks. Many of the attackers are suspected to be foreign herders, according to local officials and state governors.

Data compiled between March 28 and April 14, 2025, shows that over 100 people were killed in Plateau alone, with 52 deaths reported in Zike and Kimakpa communities, and another 54 in Zikke Kimakpa. In Benue State, at least 44 deaths were recorded across Otobi Akpa, Ikobi, Gwer West, and Mbasombo during the same period.
